The suitable water temperature for bettas varies depending on their species and growth stage. The specific conditions are as follows:

I. Chinese Betta
Daily Rearing: The most suitable water temperature is 20-25°C, within which their metabolism is vigorous and growth rate is the fastest. However, in actual breeding, it is recommended to maintain the temperature at 22-28°C, with 25-28°C being the ideal range, as the fish will have vivid body colors and a strong appetite at this temperature.
Breeding Period: The water temperature needs to be raised to 26-28°C to accelerate nest-building and improve hatching rates.
Tolerance Range: They can temporarily tolerate low temperatures of 5°C or high temperatures of 30°C, but long-term exposure to low temperatures will cause metabolic stagnation, and high temperatures are prone to inducing tail rot.
II. Thai Betta and Other Species
Regular Varieties: The optimal water temperature is 24-28°C, with 25-26°C being the golden temperature.
Half-Moon Betta: The suitable water temperature is 20-25°C, and they have lower requirements for water hardness.
Short-Term Adaptation Range: They can survive in water temperatures ranging from 20-30°C, but their appetite will decrease when the temperature is below 20°C, and they are prone to oxygen deficiency when the temperature is above 30°C.
III. Key Points for Seasonal Management
Summer: Avoid direct sunlight from causing the water temperature to exceed 30°C. Fans or ice packs can be used for cooling, and the amount of feeding should be reduced at the same time.
Winter: It is recommended to use a heater to keep the water temperature not lower than 22°C. During the breeding period, constant temperature equipment is needed to control the temperature difference within 1°C.
Spring and Autumn: The day-night temperature difference should be controlled within 5°C, and low-power heaters can be used at night to assist in heat preservation.
IV. Requirements for Special Stages
Juvenile Stage: The water temperature must be strictly kept constant at around 26°C, with a temperature difference not exceeding 1°C.
Adult Stage: They can adapt to a slightly wider temperature range, but the fluctuation is recommended not to exceed 3°C.
It is advisable to equip with a heater and a thermometer for real-time monitoring to avoid sudden changes in water temperature affecting the health of bettas.
