Special attention should be paid to aquarium setup when keeping guppies. Here are key points summarized from breeding experience:

1. Aquarium Size Selection
A square tank 30-40 cm in length is recommended (with glass thickness of at least 5mm), as it provides sufficient space for activity while being easy to manage.
Avoid using heat-bent all-in-one tanks or three-in-one filtration tanks, as overly strong water flow can easily cause injuries to guppies.
During the breeding period, it is advisable to use a large tank with partitions (such as a 75cm tank divided into 4 compartments) to prevent hybridization and cross-infection.
2. Filtration System Configuration
Sponge filters are preferred, as they produce gentle water flow that is less likely to damage the fish's tails.
For wall-mounted filters, the power should be turned down, and the filter media is recommended to be a combination of quartz balls and filter cotton.
Bare-bottom tanks are ideal for keeping guppies, as they prevent feces from accumulating in substrate or decorations.
3. Environmental Setup Taboos
Do not place items that can acidify the water, such as driftwood or almond leaves.
Sharp decorations must be removed, as they can easily scratch the fish's fins.
It is recommended to pair the heater with a thermostat to maintain a stable water temperature between 22-28°C.
4. Maintenance Tips
Change 1/3 of the water every week, ensuring that the temperature difference between new and old water does not exceed 3°C.
For fry tanks, a 25cm ultra-white tank with an 8-watt waterfall filter is recommended.
Pregnant female fish need to be isolated during the breeding period, and bamboo plants can be placed in the tank for fry to hide.
