Betta Fish Optimal Water Temperature Guide

I. Chinese Betta (Domestic Betta)
Daily Care
Optimal Water Temperature: 22-28°C (Round-tailed Betta: 20-25°C; Fork-tailed Betta: 22-27°C)
Golden Range: 24-26°C (for peak condition)
Breeding Period
Temperature needs to be raised to 26-28°C (to promote bubble nest formation and egg hatching)
Tolerance Limits
Can survive briefly in 3-30°C water. However, prolonged exposure to temperatures below 14°C or above 30°C may lead to health issues.
II. Thai Betta
Basic Requirements
Constant temperature is a must: 24-28°C (temperatures below 18°C may be fatal)
Breeding Period
A constant temperature of 28°C is recommended (to improve fertilization success rate)
III. Key Notes
Temperature Fluctuation Control
When changing water, the temperature difference between new and old water should be ≤ 2°C to avoid stress.
Seasonal Management
Summer: Cool the water if temperatures exceed 30°C (using fans or ice packs)
Winter: Use a heater to maintain temperatures above 22°C
Risks of Abnormal Temperatures
Low Temperature (< 20°C): Reduced appetite and increased susceptibility to water mold disease
High Temperature (> 30°C): Insufficient dissolved oxygen, potential tail burns, or fish jumping out of the tank
Special Reminder
Although Chinese Bettas are cold-tolerant, maintaining a stable water temperature can significantly extend their lifespan and enhance their ornamental value.
